
José Ávila Tuanama
José Ávila Tuanama was a 29-year-old Peruvian who volunteered to fight for Ukraine during the Russian invasion. He tragically lost his life during an ambush by Russian forces while returning from a patrol. His father shared that José enlisted to support Ukraine for a six-month mission before planning to return to Peru. Following his death, the Peruvian government, represented by Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer, began efforts to facilitate the repatriation of his body.
