Karl Dönitz was a German admiral and the last president of Nazi Germany, serving briefly after Hitler's death. Prior to this, he was a prominent commander of the U-boat fleet during World War II. Dönitz was appointed by Hitler as his successor in his final testament, and he oversaw Germany's surrender to the Allied forces in May 1945.
