Maximiliano de Habsburgo was an Austrian archduke who became Emperor of Mexico from 1864 to 1867 during the Second Mexican Empire. His reign was marked by an attempt to establish a European-style monarchy in Mexico, supported by conservative factions and foreign powers, particularly France. However, following the withdrawal of French support and the rise of republican forces led by Benito Juárez, Maximiliano was captured and executed, leading to the restoration of the Mexican Republic.
