Mayya Sandu is the President of Moldova and a prominent advocate for European integration. She made history as the first woman to hold the presidential office in Moldova, having been elected in November 2020. Under her leadership, Moldova has sought closer ties with the European Union, formally applying for EU membership in February 2022. In the recent parliamentary elections held on September 28, 2023, her pro-European party, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), achieved a significant victory, securing over 50% of the vote and reinforcing her government’s mandate.
