Mikhail Yoghansen
Mikhail Yoghansen, also known as Mike Yoghansen, was a prominent Ukrainian poet, prose writer, translator, critic, linguist, and screenwriter born in Kharkiv. He was a founding member of the literary association VAPLITE and became known for his complex language and thematic depth in literature. Yoghansen was arrested in 1937 by the NKVD, accused of participating in an anti-Soviet nationalist organization, and was subsequently executed, with his remains buried in the Bykivnia forest. His last work, 'Yugurta: A Tale of Old Kharkiv,' was thought lost until fragments were recently translated and published.
