Mok Yieng

Mok Yieng is a 70-year-old former Khmer Rouge fighter who served as a fighter pilot in the Cambodian air force. He was trained in China shortly after the Khmer Rouge took control of Phnom Penh in 1975, becoming part of an elite group of officers that formed the basis of the future Khmer Rouge aviation. Now living a modest life as a farmer with his wife and daughter in western Cambodia, Yieng reflects on his unexpected rise from a simple peasant to a military officer, highlighting the complex and often dark history of Cambodia's past, particularly regarding China's involvement in supporting the Khmer Rouge regime.
