Monica Seles is a former professional tennis player from Yugoslavia who became a naturalized American citizen. Born on December 2, 1973, she was one of the most dominant players in women's tennis during the 1990s, winning nine Grand Slam singles titles. Known for her powerful two-handed strokes and aggressive playing style, Seles was ranked world No. 1 for a total of 178 weeks. Her career was tragically interrupted in 1993 when she was stabbed by a deranged fan during a match, leading to a significant hiatus from the sport. After her return, Seles continued to compete at a high level and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009. She remains a beloved figure in tennis history.
