René Barrientos

René Barrientos was a Bolivian military leader and politician who served as the President of Bolivia during two non-consecutive terms in the 1960s and 1970s. He came to power through a military coup in 1964 and was known for his anti-communist stance and efforts to suppress leftist movements in Bolivia. Barrientos is often remembered for his controversial governance, including his collaboration with former Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie in military operations against leftist insurgents.
