Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, the Marquess of Salisbury, is a prominent British politician and hereditary peer who served as the Conservative leader of the House of Lords. He played a key role in the compromise that allowed for the retention of a limited number of hereditary peers during the initial reforms of the House of Lords in 1999.
