Rudolph Hass

Rudolph Hass was a postal worker in rural California during the 1920s who unintentionally discovered the Hass avocado. He purchased avocado seeds to cultivate on his land, and while most grafts failed, one produced a uniquely dark, thick-skinned fruit that his children enjoyed. This led to the creation of the Hass avocado variety, which now dominates global avocado trade and cultural trends.
