Siarhei Tsichanouski

Siarhei Tsichanouski is a prominent Belarusian opposition figure and former video blogger who gained recognition for his candidacy against President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the controversial 2020 presidential election. Shortly after announcing his intention to run, Tsichanouski was arrested and subsequently sentenced to 18 years in prison for his political activities. His imprisonment has made him one of the most notable political prisoners in Belarus, drawing international attention and solidarity among human rights advocates. His wife, Svjatlana Tsichanouskaja, has since taken over as the leader of the opposition in exile, continuing to advocate for political reform and the release of political prisoners in Belarus.
