Sultan II Selim, also known as Selim the Sot, was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1566 until his death in 1574. He is renowned for commissioning significant architectural works, most notably the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, which is considered one of the masterpieces of Ottoman architecture and was designed by the famous architect Mimar Sinan.
