Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete and cancer research activist who became a national hero after his courageous run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma, he lost his leg to cancer but embarked on the Marathon of Hope in 1980, running nearly 3,339 miles on one leg before his journey was cut short by the spread of his cancer. His legacy continues through the Terry Fox Foundation, which has raised millions for cancer research in his name.
