V V Giri was an eminent Indian politician and trade union leader who served as the Vice-President of India from 1967 to 1969 and subsequently as President of India from 1969 to 1974. He was instrumental in promoting labor rights and played a key role in India's labor movement. Giri resigned from the Vice-Presidency to become President, filling the vacancy left by the death of Zakir Hussain.
