Viorel Ene
Viorel Ene was an engineer at the Institute of Hydropower Studies and Designs (ISPH) during the tumultuous period following the fall of communism in Romania. He became actively involved in the protests at University Square in 1990, opposing the resurgence of communist power under Ion Iliescu's Front for National Salvation. On June 13, 1990, during violent confrontations, he was severely beaten by miners brought to Bucharest to suppress the protests. After his injuries and subsequent recovery abroad, he dedicated himself to documenting the events of the Mineriad and founded the Association of Victims of the Mineriad to seek justice for the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable.
