Wilbert Joseph Castañeda Gómez

Wilbert Joseph Castañeda Gómez is a former U.S. Navy sailor who was arrested in Caracas in August 2022 while visiting a friend. His family maintains that he was unjustly detained without cause and used as a political pawn by the Venezuelan government. After nearly a year in custody, he was released in a prisoner exchange facilitated by negotiations between the U.S. and Venezuelan governments.
