Yoshito Matsushige was a local newspaper photographer who, on August 6, 1945, captured the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima with just five haunting photographs. At the time, he was only 32 years old, and he later recounted the emotional turmoil he felt as he hesitated for 20 minutes before taking a picture of the devastation, overwhelmed by the sight of destruction and loss.
