
Đurađ Branković
Đurađ Branković was a Serbian despot who ruled during the late 14th and early 15th centuries. He is known for his efforts to maintain Serbian autonomy in the face of Ottoman expansion and for strategically marrying off his daughter Mara to Sultan Murat II to secure peace. His reign saw significant territorial losses to the Ottomans, but he is also credited with founding the new Serbian capital of Smederevo. Đurađ's political maneuvers and diplomatic efforts were pivotal during a critical period in Serbian history.
