Aleksandar Baranov

Aleksandar Baranov was a prominent Russian fur trader and the first governor of Russian America, primarily known for his role in establishing Russian settlements and trade in Alaska during the late 18th century. His aggressive expansion and management of the Russian-American Company led to significant Russian influence in the region, although his harsh treatment of the indigenous Tlingit people earned him the nickname 'Heartless.'
