Alice Nkom
Alice Nkom is an 80-year-old Cameroonian lawyer and a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Africa. As the first black lawyer in Cameroon, she has dedicated over two decades to defending individuals accused of homosexuality in a country where such relationships are criminalized. Despite facing threats, public humiliation, and legal challenges, including accusations of money laundering, Nkom remains steadfast in her commitment to uphold the rights of marginalized communities, viewing her work as a fundamental human right. She founded the Association for the Defense of Homosexuality in 2003 and has become a surrogate mother figure for many in the LGBTQ+ community.
