Antonio Meucci was an Italian inventor and engineer, best known for his pioneering work in the development of the telephone. Born in 1808 in Florence, Meucci emigrated to the United States where he conducted experiments on voice communication over wires. Despite his significant contributions, he faced challenges in patenting his inventions, and it wasn't until decades later that he was posthumously recognized by the U.S. Congress as the true inventor of the telephone, sharing credit with Alexander Graham Bell.
