
Antonio Pigafetta
Antonio Pigafetta was an Italian explorer and chronicler born around 1491 in Vicenza, Italy. He is best known for his detailed account of the first circumnavigation of the globe, which he undertook as a member of Ferdinand Magellan's expedition from 1519 to 1522. Pigafetta's meticulous diary documented not only the journey and its challenges but also the cultures and peoples encountered along the way, providing invaluable insights into the world as it was known during the Age of Exploration. His writings include observations on exotic flora and fauna, the languages spoken by indigenous peoples, and the interactions between Europeans and the diverse cultures they met.
