Bartolo Longo
Bartolo Longo was an Italian lawyer and the founder of the Sanctuary of Pompeii, known for his deep devotion to the Virgin Mary. Born in 1841 in Brindisi, he initially struggled with personal turmoil and briefly turned to spiritualism before returning to his Catholic faith with the help of priests. In 1876, he began the construction of the Sanctuary, which became a significant pilgrimage site, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. Longo devoted his life to charitable works and the promotion of Marian devotion through writing and activism. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1980, and the ongoing efforts for his canonization have recently gained attention due to a decree from the Vatican.
