Bassam Al Hassan is a former Major General in the Syrian military and a close ally of ousted President Bashar al-Assad, known for his role as Chief of Staff of the National Defence Forces. He has been implicated in the abduction and alleged execution of American journalist Austin Tice, claiming that Assad ordered the killing. After the regime's collapse, Al Hassan fled to Iran but later met with US officials in Lebanon, where he provided information regarding Tice's fate.
