Camilo Torres Restrepo
Camilo Torres Restrepo was a Colombian priest and revolutionary who became a prominent figure in the country's leftist movements. Born on February 3, 1929, he was known for his advocacy of social justice and his criticism of the government and the church's role in perpetuating inequality. Torres was deeply influenced by liberation theology, which sought to address the needs of the poor and marginalized in society. He joined the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) in the 1960s, believing that armed struggle was necessary to achieve social change. His death on February 15, 1966, during a military engagement, turned him into a martyr for many leftist groups in Colombia, and he continues to be an emblematic figure in the struggle for social justice in the country.
