Cory Anthony Booker is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from New Jersey since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, he is notably the first African-American U.S. senator from New Jersey. Before his tenure in the Senate, Booker served as the 38th mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013, where he gained recognition for his efforts in urban development and affordable housing. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in New Jersey, he attended Stanford University, where he played college football, and later earned degrees from Oxford and Yale Law School.
