Evgenia Gutsul is the Governor of Gagauzia, an autonomous region in Moldova. She has recently been in the news due to her arrest at Chisinau Airport before departing Moldova, as she is implicated in a corruption case involving the illegal financing of a political party. The National Anti-Corruption Center detained her for 72 hours while evidence was presented by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, which alleges that she participated in smuggling funds from Russia to support political campaigns between 2019 and 2022.
