García de Padilla

Fray García de Padilla was a significant figure in the early Catholic Church in the Americas, serving as the first bishop designated for Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Catedral Primada de América, which was consecrated in 1546, solidifying the Dominican Republic's claim to this title over other claims in the region.
