Gustavo Adolfo Cárdenas is a former executive of Citgo, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA, who gained international attention when he was detained in Venezuela in 2017. His release in March 2022 followed a high-level diplomatic visit from the Biden administration to discuss energy security and the status of American detainees in Venezuela.
