
Hennadiy Shapovalov
Hennadiy Shapovalov is a Ukrainian military leader who was recently appointed by President Volodymyr Zelensky as the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Born in 1978 in the Kirovohrad region, he graduated with honors from the Tank Forces Institute at Kharkiv State Polytechnic University in 2000 and later from the National Defense University of Ukraine in 2012. His military career has seen him rise through the ranks from a tank platoon commander to the commander of the separate motorized infantry brigade named after Yakov Handziuk. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in March 2022 and has previously served as the commander of the Southern Operational Command.
