Joanna of Castile

Joanna of Castile (1479-1555), often referred to as Joanna the Mad, was the daughter of Isabella I and Ferdinand II. Her reign was marked by personal tragedy and political strife, including the madness attributed to her grief over her husband Philip the Handsome's death, which led to her being declared unfit to rule and her subsequent confinement for much of her life.
