Reverend Kijoši Tanimoto was a Methodist pastor in Hiroshima. On the morning of the atomic bomb, he was preparing to move his belongings to a safer location when the explosion occurred. Surviving the blast, he immediately began helping the wounded and became a prominent figure in the community's response to the disaster.
