Mavka

Mavka is a Ukrainian woman living in the occupied city of Melitopol, who chose to remain in her hometown after the Russian invasion in February 2022 to resist the occupation. As a member of a secret female resistance network called Zla Mavka, she engages in small acts of defiance against Russian authorities, including using social media to document life under occupation and placing Ukrainian symbols in public spaces. Mavka's commitment to her identity and her homeland drives her efforts to remind her fellow Ukrainians that they are not alone in their struggle against the oppressive regime.
