
Oscar V. Peterson
Oscar V. Peterson was a distinguished U.S. Navy veteran who served for 20 years and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during World War II. He was in charge of the steam engine on the USS Neosho when it was attacked by Japanese forces in 1942. Despite sustaining severe injuries, Peterson's quick thinking and bravery helped keep the ship afloat, ultimately saving many lives, although he succumbed to his wounds shortly after. His legacy as a dedicated sailor and war hero was recognized when the USNS Harvey Milk was renamed in his honor.
