Pope Paul III, born Alessandro Farnese, was a significant figure in the Catholic Reformation. Before becoming pope in 1534, he served as the Bishop of Vence and was known for his political acumen, notably mediating between King Francis I and Emperor Charles V during the Treaty of Nice in 1538.
