Roma
Roma is a young boy from Mstislavl who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type I shortly after birth. His family launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of the gene therapy Zolgensma, which ultimately took two years to complete. After receiving the treatment in July 2023, Roma has begun to show signs of improvement, including new vocalizations and some swallowing ability, as his family continues to work on his rehabilitation.
