Originally from a small town in Michigan, he became a wanderer, often expressing disdain for governmental systems. At 73 years old, he found himself in the eastern Ukrainian town of Izium when the Russian invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested by Russian authorities, accused of fighting for Ukraine, and has since been transferred between several detention centers in Russia while facing charges of being a mercenary.
