Afonso Motta is a Brazilian politician and lawyer, born in Porto Alegre in 1948. He graduated with a degree in Law from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 1972. Motta began his political career as a federal deputy for the Democratic Labor Party (PDT) in 2010, securing his first full term after being elected in 2014. He has been re-elected multiple times, serving in significant roles, including as the President of the Labor Commission and as the party leader in the Chamber of Deputies. Recently, he has been cited in a Federal Police investigation regarding alleged misappropriation of parliamentary amendments, which has brought him into the news spotlight.
