
Anivaldo Padilha
Anivaldo Padilha is a Brazilian Methodist activist who fled Brazil in 1971 during the military dictatorship after enduring torture in a São Paulo prison. He was smuggled out of the country by a church group and eventually found refuge in the United States, where he lived for many years before returning to Brazil. His experiences as a political refugee have deeply influenced his family, including his son, Alexandre Padilha, who is currently serving as Brazil's health minister.
