Constantine II
Constantine II was the last king of Greece, reigning from 1964 until his abdication in 1973. Born on June 2, 1940, he was the son of King Paul of Greece and Queen Frederica. His reign was marked by political turmoil and a contentious relationship with the Greek military junta that ultimately led to his downfall. Constantine II's efforts to restore the monarchy were unsuccessful, and he spent much of his later life in exile. He returned to Greece after the restoration of democracy in 1974 but lived primarily in Italy and the UK. His life and reign are often discussed in the context of the wider historical events of 20th-century Greece, including the civil conflict and the transition to democracy.
