
Elena Pătrășcanu
Elena Pătrășcanu, born Hertha Schwamen on April 12, 1914, in Cernăuți, was a prominent Romanian scenographer and political activist. As the wife of Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu, a leading communist figure, she was deeply involved in the Romanian Communist Party's artistic community. However, after her husband's arrest and execution, she was accused of complicity and sentenced to 14 years of hard labor in 1954. Her artistic contributions included significant work in puppet theater, and she was eventually released in 1956. She published memoirs detailing her experiences in communist prisons.
