Homero Gómez

Homero Gómez was a prominent Mexican environmentalist and advocate for the protection of the Monarch butterfly sanctuary located in Michoacán. He became widely recognized for his efforts to combat illegal logging and preserve the natural habitat crucial for the butterflies' migration. His commitment to environmental conservation and activism made him a target for organized crime involved in deforestation. Gómez was tragically murdered in January 2020, highlighting the dangers faced by environmental defenders in Mexico.
