
Ivan Paskevich
Ivan Paskevich was a prominent Russian field marshal known for his military leadership during the 19th century. He played a significant role in quelling the November Uprising of 1830-31 in Poland and its surrounding regions, which resulted in harsh reprisals from the Russian Empire, including the suppression of Polish privileges and the onset of Russification in the territories. His military career also included the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution in 1849. Paskevich is recognized for his strategic prowess and was later appointed as the Imperial Viceroy of Poland.
