James Forten

James Forten was an influential African American abolitionist and businessman who was only nine years old when he first heard the public reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He dedicated his life to the fight against slavery and worked tirelessly to promote civil rights for Black Americans, using the ideals of the Declaration to advocate for freedom and equality.
