Miad Maleki is a prominent figure known for his role in shaping U.S. sanctions against Iran during the Trump administration. A Bahá'í and Israeli Zionist, Maleki immigrated to the United States in the early 2000s, serving briefly in the U.S. Air Force before joining the U.S. Department of the Treasury in 2017. As Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), he was instrumental in designing and implementing over 35 sanctions programs targeting Iran. Maleki recently gained attention for discussing his personal motivations behind the 'maximum pressure' campaign against Iran and for keeping the pen used by Trump to sign sanctions against the Iranian leader as a badge of honor.
