Pedro de Valdivia
Pedro de Valdivia was a Spanish conquistador and the first royal governor of Chile. Born in 1497, he played a crucial role in the Spanish colonization of the region, founding the city of Santiago in 1541. Valdivia's tenure was marked by conflict with the indigenous Mapuche people, and he faced numerous challenges in establishing Spanish control. He was killed in battle in 1553.
