General Tuan Hsi-wen was a prominent leader of the KMT's 5th army, known for his guerrilla warfare tactics against communist forces in the 1950s and 1960s. He famously stated that in the mountains of Southeast Asia, opium was the only means to finance their military operations, as his forces controlled a significant portion of the opium trade in the Golden Triangle.
