William Colby was a prominent American intelligence officer who served as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 1973 to 1976 under Presidents Nixon and Ford. He is notable for overseeing significant operations during the Cold War and for his later advocacy of transparency in the intelligence community. He is the grandfather of Elbridge Colby Egan.
