Olympe de Gouges was a French playwright and political activist best known for her pioneering work in feminist thought. She is most famous for her 1791 publication of the 'Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen', which asserted the equality of women and demanded their rights during the turbulent period of the French Revolution. De Gouges was a vocal advocate for women's rights and social justice and faced persecution for her beliefs, ultimately being executed in 1793.
