Altiero Spinelli
Altiero Spinelli was an Italian politician, intellectual, and one of the founding fathers of the European Union. Born in 1907, he was a prominent advocate for European integration and federalism, especially during and after World War II. While imprisoned on the island of Ventotene, he co-authored the 'Ventotene Manifesto,' which outlined the vision for a united Europe as a means to prevent future wars. His work laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the European Union, significantly influencing European politics and cooperation.
